Your earliest memory

I do not really know what my earliest memory would be but I have lots of fond memories from my childhood. I kind of remember when my brother was born because I had to go to my Grandma Mayberry's house and I got to watch The Wizard of Oz. Another fond memory is sitting on the porch helping my Uncle Craig shelling walnuts and his goose chasing me and "goosing me". Oh and there was the time the drunk indian came to our house and made my mom cry. There was the time that my mom was working and my Uncle David was working and I cut my leg taking the garbage out. When I was in kindergarten I got in trouble from my teacher because I was having trouble tying my shoes so she sent me to another teacher so she could deal with me. These were all memories of when I lived in Nebraska and all before second grade.

It has been awhile since I have blogged on here. I always say I want to get back to blogging but like a lot of good intentions it does not happen. For me I always end up spending my spare time reading instead of doing all the other things I talk about. So this time I am going to start small and participate in the Listers Gotta List with The Reset Girl. To join in on your own here is the link to her website . You can also connect with her and many other listers on her Facebook page. Since this is the 4th of July I am going to play a little catch up and post the first four days worth of lists.

My thoughts

Last night when I was trying to go to sleep my mind started wandering to many different things. So I thought I would take the time to write about what I was thinking of. My random thoughts.

In my current living condition my parents live with us or we live with my parents - you can look at it either way. But let me tell you either way is not fun for me. Yesterday my husband wanted to take me to lunch to celebrate my getting a job and the kids wanted to go along so off we went to lunch. I enjoyed the time with my family but everytime I leave the house I feel guilty. I have a parent who likes to make remarks to make you feel like you are always doing something wrong unless they are included. You get dirty looks when you leave the house and when you come home you can feel the tension in the air and feel as if you are getting a cold shoulder. You can just being going to a doctor's appointment, to work or to run an errand it does not matter you still get the same treatment. I am tired of living this way and feeling like I am always wrong, a prisioner in my own home, and generally being treated like a bad person. I have given all I can to make the situtation better and there is no helping it. This is the biggest reason I want to move away. So let's hope all goes well and we will be able to move in our two year goal time.

I have talked about wanting to write a book many times. I keep thinking of ideas in my head that I would like to write about. Last night I was thinking about a book about Paul Revere and/or Benedict Arnold. I guess this comes from buying so many books on American History lately as well as I am reading The First American by H.W. Brands which is about Benjamin Franklin. I have been thinking about finding a book about these two as I have not seen them so how nice it would be if I just wrote the book myself. We see so many stories about George Washington, John Adams and Thomas Jefferson. But why not a book about the other key players in the American Revolution.

I have a dream of living in a house in the country. It seems the more I live around people the more I want to live away from people. I do not need much in my home just a place to put my books and a nice garage for Scott. I would also like a nice porch that I could sit and relax on. The kitchen would be nice if it had plenty of counter and cupboard space, also I have always liked the hanging pan idea. In the bathroom I would love a soaker tub and a shower built for two with plenty of showerheads. In the bedroom I would love to have plenty of storage space for our clothes so they are organized neatly. A view of a beautiful landscape would also be nice with a nice yard. I think it would be great to have a home customized just for me.

All these acts of terror and hating of people is just crazy. I have a pen pal in Bussels and when I heard what happened I was hoping I would be able to contact her to make sure her and her family were safe. Luckily she is safe. I just do not understand why horrible people do these things. It is just like our election this year. If you do not like this person someone hates you to the point they no longer want to be your friend or if you like that person you are a horrible person. If the media would not blow so many things out of proportion then that would help. Also if you do not like someone or what they say do not listen to them. If you do not like something you see on tv, social media or hear on the radio turn the station. No one is forcing you to listen or like things you do not. You have a choice to not watch, listen or read things you do not like so use that choice. If you do not have anything nice to say then don't say anything at all. Be respectful of others views and likes.

Yesterday I got my first issue of The Happy News in the mail all the way from across the pond (England), I can not wait to read it. I did glimpse  through it and it looks like a nice airplane. They report happy things that happen in the world instead of all bad news like normal media does. I hope this takes off and we see more happy news. I myself do not watch or read the regular news as it is all bad and I do not want to hear it.

This week has also been a week of books in the mail. Each day I have received at least one or more books in the mail. It is always nice to get free books. I love my books so whenever I see them come in the mail it makes me smile.

What have you been thinking about lately? I would love to hear about it.

In my internet travels I find all of these lovely bookshops that look amazing and would be fun to visit. So why not share. Some are stores and some are libraries but they are all unique in their own way.

Five people in history I would like to meet.

I enjoy reading about history and learning histroical figures and places. It is not just American history that I love but World history. So I thought I would give you a glimpse of ten historical figures that I would like to meet and why I would like to meet them as well as a little about them. These are in no particular order.

Thomas Jefferson
Thomas Jefferson was our third president, a draftsman of the Declaration of the Independence and responsible for the Louisana Purchase. I wold like to meet him because he was an avid reader and had the largest library in the country. In fact you can still to this day go and visit his library which of course is on my list of things I would love to do. I think he was a very smart man and had a lot to say and I would enjoy listening to what he has to say. He did a lot of things for our country which has helped to shape it into what it is. Although I think him and the rest of the forefathers would be rolling in their graves if they know how down hill it has gone. (I do not discuss politics so please do not do so here). He is the person responsible for the Lewis and Clark Expedition which led to the Louisana Purchase. I would like to hear his thoughts on this and what they found. I would also like to hear more about his relationship with Sally Hemings from him not some historians view on it. He also lived for many years in Paris and I would like to hear the stories about this time in his life. He would just have so much history to share that I would love to listen to. A few good quotes from him: Honesty is the first chapter in the book of wisdom. Nothing can stop the man with the right mental attitude from achieving his goal; nothing on earth can help the man with the wrong mental attitude. I cannot live without books (of course this is my favorite).

Helen Keller
Helen Keller is known for her being deaf and blind but did you know she was an author, a public speaker, a humanitarian and a socialist. I would like to meet her as she was not only a strong person but well accomplished and very educated. She I am sure would have so many stories that she could tell you about her travels and her life experiences for hours on end. I would like to hear from her what kept her so determined and positive in life to do all she did. She had many famous friends like Mark Twain and I think it would be nice to hear about them and what they were like as well as her relationship with her teacher and life long partner in life Anne Sullivan. Helen traveled to over 35 countries in the world so I would also like to hear about her travels and experiences. Her views of visiting other countries would be different than a sighted person so I would like to hear about them and how she experienced it through other senses. A few quotes from Helen that I like are: Keep your face to the sunshine and you cannot see a shadow. I cannot do everything but I can do something. When one does closes another opens. But we often look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one that has opened for us.

Laura Ingalls Wilder
If you have read any books at all you have heard of the Little House on the Prairie books that Laura wrote. Most children have grown up reading them. Did you know Laura got her start in writing by writing magazine articles for the Missouri Ruralist. I would like to meet her to hear of her experiences of being a pioneer. Yes I have read all of her books as well as any book about her that I can get my hands one. She has been an idol of mine for many many years. I think she was a strong woman who braved the untamed lands her entire life and you could not be weak to endure this. She moved a lot as a child and I would like to hear about that. Then I would like to hear about her move to Missouri with her husband and daughter and their experiences of growing Rocky Ridge. She is known for being a nice woman but also did not take any grief from anyone and stood up for what she believed in along with having a little temper. I think she is a person I could have been friends with and would just have loved the chance to meet her. Quotes from Laura that I enjoy are: There's no great loss without some small gain. It is the sweet, simple things of life which are the real ones after all. Home is the nicest word there is.

John and Abigail Adams
John Adams was our second president as well as helped to draft the Declaration of Independence. His wife Abigail was along his side during all of this and was someone he confided in as well as valued her opinion. They had a very loving relationship and their letters have been published and kept alive so you can see how close they were and how much Abigail influenced and contributed to John's career. I would like to meet this couple for much of the same reasons as the others I have listed. The amount of history these two would have to share would be so interesting to me. I would like to ask Abigail what it was like to be a woman in the turblent Revolutionary times as well what it was like to be married to one of the founding fathers of our country and being related to Samuel Adams. It is hard to imagine the things she had to go through. I would like to ask John about his family's puritan history and if they talked about their journey to America and what it had been like for them. I am sure John would have some great stories about some of the other historical figures of that time and I would like to hear them as well as stories about Thomas Jefferson as they were good friends. Quotes from John Adams: Try and fail but do not fail to try. If you actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more, and become more you are a leader. Old minds are like old horses, you must exercise them if you wish to keep them in working order.

Beatrix Potter
Beatrix Potter was an author of well known children's books as well as an illustrator, natural scientist and conservationist. As a child we all in love with the characters of Beatrix's books such as Peter Rabbit, Jemima Puddle-Duck and Jeremy Fisher. Here is a look at many of her characters.

I would like to meet her to tell her how much I love her illustrations and enjoyed reading her books to my kids when they were young. I just love Peter Rabbit and have to say he is one of my favorites. It would be nice to sit and listen to her tell you stories about all the animal as she would speak with. I would like to here how she decided to start writing and drawing in her own words as well as what her family thought of this. It would be interesting to hear about how she got into the publishing industry and any trials she endured and how she dealt with them. I would also like to hear more about her relationship with Norman Warne who was her editor as well as her fiance. Another thing I would like to know is what she thinks about how famous her books have become, did she ever imagine they would be so widely loved. In her later life she gave up writing and replaced it with farming and raising sheep. I would like to know why she chose to do this. It was nice that in her will she gave her lands to the National Trust so they could not be developed but preserved to future generaions could enjoy and I would like to thank her for that and hope to one day to be able to visit and enjoy them myself. Quotes by Beatrix: Thank goodness I never went to school: it would have rubbed off the originality. Accept the present moment as if you have chosen it. Believe there is a great power silently working all things for good, behave yourself and nevermind the rest.

Who in history would you like to meet?

The Circle January 2016 and January Reset Weeks 2 & 3

The Circle Link-Up is hosted by In Its Time Blog along with a different co-host each month. She will send out an email each month with the topic for that month. This month is goals and inspiration moodboards. If you would like to participate and link up please go here

My goals for 2016 are to really follow through with blogging once a week. Another goal is to really connect with my One Little Word - Focus and to learn to live by that word. By learning to focus I am going to really focus on getting a new job. I am working at it harder than I have any other time in my life. I am ready to be back in the working field and getting back out into the world. One of the other things I want to focus on this year is to finally start writing the book I have always dreamed about. Even if I only get started by coming up with my ideas and outlines. A big goal for me for the last two years is to stay on the positive thinking track and get rid of the negatives things in my life. The last thing for me to focus on is to finish things that I start. I have a problem with starting things then letting them go. I need to fix this issue. One thing I have done is to pick a symbol to remember to stay focused whenever I see it. My symbol I chose was a sunflower. The reason I chose this is because it is bright, cheery and always looking up as well as makes me smile when I see them. So what better symbol.  So without futher ado here is my moodboard to keep me focused.

January Reset Weeks Two and Three
January Reset is a project created by Lemon and Raspberry you can check out her blog here to read more about it and how to do your own reset. Each week there is a different set of journaling ideas to help you along on the journey. So today I am going to focus on week one. #JanuaryReset

Week Two: Right Now:
Right now I'm loving watching Downton Abbey. I am sad to say that this is the last season so I will have to buy the dvd's now.

Right now I am desiring new books always. There is not a day that goes buy when I do not find a new book I want to get.

Right now I am feeling hopeful. I have been applying for jobs left and right and have sent out over fifty resumes so I am hoping to get a call from one.

Right now I am wishing that things will work out sooner rather than later so we can make the move to a new state like we want to.

Right now I am thinking about the book I am reading (Me Before You by JoJo Moyes), the tv show I am watching, my family, bills, and projects I want to start and finish.

Right now I am needing to take a mini vacation. This last year we skipped my birthday, anniversary and pretty much Christmas. So I would like to take a break and go away to relax and forget my worries for a few days.

Right now I am dreaming about the trip to Europe that I have wanted to take for a long time now. There are many places I want to see and experience while visiting those beautiful countries.

Week Three: Goals:
A personal goal for this year is for me to remain focused on things that I want to accomplish in my life. Stay positive, finish projects, find a job, just to name a few.

A work goal for this year is to actually find a job. I am currently looking for a job that will fit me. It is time that I get back into the working world and I am more than ready.

A health goal for this year is to cut out more of the foods that are bad for me. I was doing good on no sweets but have stumbled on that road so I need to get back on track. I would also like to stop with the potato chips, they are my downfall.

A realtionship goal is to not be so nagging. Sometimes I tend to pick at things that really have no meaning and then start fights. I need to learn to let things go.

A "build my future" goal for this year is to start writing my dream book. If I can just get started then it will a dream come true.

A friendship goal for this year is to find a good friend. I have some great pen pals and some great freinds from my online book club but unfortunately I do not have any "real" life in person friends and would like to have someone to go do things with sometimes.

A home goal for this year would be to fix the roof so there is no more minor leaking. My real goal is to move to Colorado and away from here but that will have to wait a couple of years.

January Rest - Week One

January Reset is a project created by Lemon and Raspberry you can check out her blog here to read more about it and how to do your own reset. Each week there is a different set of journaling ideas to help you along on the journey. So today I am going to focus on week one. #JanuaryReset

Wins for 2015 - I took a leap of faith and quit my job that was causing me a lot of misery so I am going to consider that a win in my book. Another win for us last year is that we had a lot of family come to visit us. My niece Kayla and her husband Tyler came the first part of June, My niece Brianna and her boyfriend Chase came two weeks later. Even though we got to see each of them for one day it was such a pleasure to get to see them. Then my mother in law, grandma and sister in law came to visit in October. We love them so much and had a nice visit. The last visit we had was from my sister, her husband and two little ones in November. It was such a treat to see the little ones and how much they have grown. We gained a new furbaby this last year as well. Her name is Sissy and she is a great dog.

Loses for 2015 - Not only was it a win for me to quit my job but it was also a loss as the loss of income has made things a little tight for us but we are managing. I would also have to say I lost someone who I thought was going to be a good friend to me. When I left my job one of the ladies who I thought was a good friend said we should stay in touch. I tried but I got tired of it being one sided as well as her not answering text messages or phone calls. It was actually kind of hurtful to me. But life goes on. A big loss we had in our family was weight. My daughter had gastric bypass surgery and as of today has lost 80 pounds. We are very proud of her. Luckily I can not think of any other losses for the year so if there were they must not have been life changing.

Goals I reached in 2015 - I did not really set any goals for 2015 but I did participate in the One Little Word project by Ali Edwards and I stuck with the project. Another thing I completed last year was I was given a day by day journal and I have to say everyday has a passage. I will admit that I missed some days and then I would play catchup though, but I finished it by the end of the year and that is the main goal.

I wish I'd had been a little more positive in 2015. I started off the year being very positive and goal oriented with my dreams but as the year went on I seemed to get a little down. It has been hard looking for a job and sending out resume after resume but never hearing one word from anyone. With not having a job money has been tight and things have gotten behind so you tend to get a little down at times. I have done pretty good for the most part with staying positive but I had my slips with some things.

People who helped me in 2015 - I would have to say first and foremost my husband. If not for him and his supporting me I would not have been able to quit my job nor have had the courage to stand up for myself. The next person who helped me would be my daughter, she is one of the most supportative people in my life. She can make me smile and we can also have a good cry together. I am very proud to call her my daughter. My son has also been helpful with things and learned to step up with some things I needed him to. He is a good son to have.

This year, I need to cut out all the self doubt and negativity. Two years ago I used the word change as my word of the year as I wanted to change and become a better person. I am on the path to doing this and it is an ongoing journey. I tend to have a low self esteem and doubt myself when trying to make decisions about things I want to do. This year I want not doubt that I am not good enough for a good job, good enough to find a friend, good enough to write my dream book and good enough for anything I put my mind to. Negativity is such horrible thing in the world right now especially with all the political ads going on. Each day I battle closing my mind to all the negative things around me, whether it be other's negative thoughts, negative stories in the media or thinking things will not change. But this year will be my year of more positive then negative in my life.

This year, I need to add happiness. Not only do I want to be happy but I want to remain a positive thinking person. If you learn to look at the positive side of things then you can and will become a more positive person which is what I plan to do from here on out. I am also positive that I will find the job I want and need which will also make me a happy person for so many reasons. This will be a year of happiness for me and hope you as well.

A new year, new goals

Ok so I am a little behind. Originally I wanted to do this post last Friday but as they say better late than never.

This is a new year and time to set some new goals for myself. One of my goals is to post on a regular basis on my blog. The thing I need to remember is this is not a chore this is fun, a way to journal, a way to get things off my chest, a way to express myself and a way to have fun. My goal is to do a post every Friday. It may be something as simple as a list from the listing challenge I take part in or something more in depth like a post regarding my One Little Word project.

Another goal I have to really focus on my One Little Word project. The word I chose for this year is focus. You will hear more about this project and word later in a future post. One Little Word is a project created by Ali Edwards. I liked the word focus as it will help me to stay on track with things I want to get done this year. Staying focused will become a daily action for me this year.

One of the next goals I have to remain positive. Staying positive is not always as easy as it seems. When things are going a little rough I need to remember that it will not last long and better things are on the horizon.

I would also like to focus on getting a new job this year. The job I currently have is not a bad job but it is just too physically demanding for me. I would like to have a job that fits me better. For me I have had a dream for a long time to write a book. So this year I would like to start focusing on making that happen. Even if it is just getting ideas together on what I want to write about.

This will be a big year for me but it will also be a good year and I am looking forward to what I have planned for myself.
