The job I wish I had ...

Do you have your dream job? Do you wish you would have chosen a different career path then you did? Well you are not alone. Many people myself included think you want one job take that job and then find out that is not what you wanted to do or maybe you had to take the job that was available to you at them so you could make a living. So I got to thinking about this and what job or jobs I would have liked to do instead of what I chose.

I chose to be a paralegal because for one I wanted to be a person who did research in a law office to help the attorneys and for two I thought the law was an interesting field but I knew I was not cut out to be an attorney. So I chose the next best thing. Now 20 plus years later I wish I would have chosen something else.

My first choice of a job that I wanted to be was a mechanic like my dad. But I saw my dad struggle financially through my childhood and thought a paralegal would be a better paying job. It would be if you live in a large city or landed the right job. I was not so lucky to get the right paralegal job. I liked the idea of being a mechanic as I enjoyed being around cars and all things about them. I grew up going to cars shows, my dad raced the family car when I was very young, my mom's cousin had a drag race car so for me cars were in my blood.

My second choice of a job I thought about when I was deciding what to do was a teacher. There were a few things that kept me from pursuing this choice. The first being I did not have the funds to go to school for that, I was married with a newborn and this was just not an option for me at the time. The other reason being that I did not want to be told what part of history I had to teach. The main thing I wanted to teach was history as that is a love of mine, but then I thought I could teach little kids but then just did not have the confience to pursue it. So that dream kept on being a dream in my head.

Now that I am older there are a few other jobs that I would consider a dream job but would not have thought about them when I was younger. I guess my interests have changed in life.

I was watching a show about the Luisatana one night and listening to the archelogist. I have also seen other shows where archelogist have dug up historical artifacts. For me this would be a cool job it not only satisifies my love of history but the joy of finding treasures and the fun of traveling to many parts of the world. Of course I know there is more to this job than just digging in the dirt but these are the parts of it that are appealing to me.

One of my interests that have changed in life is that I find interior decorating and designing very interesting. It would be nice to spend other people's money to go shopping to buy nice things to make houses into inviting homes. I really enjoy watching the shows on HGTV where they redesign, redecorate and restore the homes. Some of my idols from these shows are Nicole Curtis, Chip and Joanna Gaines and the Property Brothers. I also get their magazine and like to dream about the things I would do to houses.

Another job that sounds fun to me is a wedding planner. Just imagine you getting to makes women's dreams come true. The downside to that job for me would be dealing with all the bridezillas and working nights and weekends. It is still fun to dream about.

The last job that I am going to talk about but certaintly not the least in my book is an author. This is a job that I am in the very near future will be working towards. My love of books will be helping me with this goal. I have always wanted to write a book and I think it is time for it to happen.

What are some of your dream jobs?

The Circle: There's No Place Like Home

The Circle is a monthly link-up that was born with dreams of creating a place for bloggers to get to know one another just a little bit better and to make new friends, too. As C.S. Lewis wisely wrote, I want more bloggers to have this feeling: "FRIENDSHIP IS BORN AT THAT MOMENT WHEN ONE PERSON SAYS TO ANOTHER: 'WHAT! YOU TOO? I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE.'"

The Circle Link-Up is hosted by In Its Time Blog along with a different co-host each month. She will send out an email each month with the topic for that month. This month is There's No Place Like Home and the co-host is Sunshine to teh Square Inch. If you would like to participate and link up please go here

There's No Place Like Home

I live in Florida at the moment but I will always consider Nebraska my home. In the words of Rodney Atkins: These are my people, this is where I come from. Florida is a nice place to visit but I do not care for living here and in the near future hope to move back North.

What is my favorite part about home? I am going to answer this in two parts. First what I love about my home as in the home I live in is my family. My husband and kids (even though they are adults now) are my pride and joy, my life, my everything. I do what I can to make them happy and feel loved. Another thing that makes me feel at home in my house is my books, if I did not have my shelves of books I would be lost. Then you must add in the furbabies - the two dogs and five cats a house is just a house without them. They each have their own personality and can make you smile when you are feeling down.

My son Matt and our dog Sissy

My wall of books

My second part of my answer of what I like about home is about Nebraska. In Nebraska things are still done at a slower pace, people still wave when driving down the country roads, only takes minutes to get to where you want to go not hours, the views of the countryside are beautiful not full of buildings, most of my family is there, you have four seasons not two (hot and hotter), people want to be outdoors and get together and last but not least and the most important to me it is full of memories.

Fall in Nebraska

Winter in Nebraska

Spring in Nebraska

Summer in Nebraska

No matter where I live in this world Nebraska will always be home and I will see the above scenes in my mind for the rest of my life. And always remember this about Nebraska:

One Little Word (DREAM) - August and Grateful 3

For the month of August our activity revolved around gratitude. This is something that we should all think of more often - what are we grateful.

What is the thing I am most thankful for in my life right now?
I am thankful that I have a husband and kids who support and love me no matter what is going on. I am also thankful for my health. Some people have more struggles and worries than I do so my everyday life is something to be thankful for. I have a home, income, food to eat and entertainment in the form of a phone, books, TV and a computer.

What is something silly I am thankful for?
I am thankful for my books. My books are more than just entertainment to me. They allow me to travel to far off places and times when I have no where to go. They give me comfort when I am scared. They give make me feel better when I am having a bad day. They generally give me a feeling of security. They give me enjoyment when I look at my full shelves.

What is something I'm experiencing right now that is challenging or hard that I can express gratitude for as a means of growth?
This is a hard one but I am going to say that living with my parents is a big challenge. I am thankful I still have my parents and am grateful that they are here to help us out when we need. I need to look past mom's negativity and dad's annoying quirks and remember the good things. At times it is hard but with work I can learn to overcome this and always look for the good.

Who specifically in your family can you be thankful for right now? Has someone extended themselves recently or shown you a kindness?
The first person in my family I am thankful for is my grandma. She may have passed away nine years ago but I was close to her and now I feel even closer to her. I talk to her everyday to help me understand things and to be able to talk about things that are bothering me. The other person I am thankful for is my daughter. SHe has shown me what a great young woman she is becoming by setting some goals for herself that were not easy, made some hard decisions and is sticking to them. I am proud of her. I will always be thankful for my husband as well as he is my biggest supporter. My sister has shown me a kindness by helping out financially without being asked, I am grateful for what she did for me this month.

What is an everyday thing in your line of sight right now that you are thankful for?
Since I have already mentioned my books I will say my TV and computer. Both of these provide me with entertainment as well as teach me things. I have shows I watch for pure entertainment but I also watch a lot of things on HGTV, History Channel and the Discovery Channel all of these have shows that can teach while entertain. As for my computer I use it for communication with family, friends and for business. It is also used for entertainment when going on social sites. When I was young we did not have home computers, the internet was not heard of and satellite TV was for the wealthy, now we "can't" live without them.

What are some other things you are grateful for?
I am grateful for this project to help me to take a deep look into my dreams and live to see what they each mean to me.

I am grateful that we are allowed to follow our dreams and to change the way we think to make them come true.

I am grateful for the many great childhood memories I have. When I am having a down day it is a good thing to look back on to bring me back up.

I am grateful for my pen pals. They allow me to be myself, voice my opnions and talk about what I want to without judging me. I am also getting to learn about new cultures and customs as most of my pen pals are from foreign countries. For me this is a great way to make friends as I tend to be an introvert.

Grateful Heart w/ Ember Grey

I am going to join in on Ember Grey's linkup where you write what you are grateful each day this week. Be sure to stop by her site if you would like to join in.

Today I am grateful for the couple of hours that I will have to myself. The kids are sleeping, Scott is at work and my parents are in town at an appointment. Sometimes I just like my alone time to de-stress. It helps me to relax and just enjoy the quiet which I crave on a daily basis.

One Little Word (DREAM) - July and Grateful #2

Image credit to Ali Edwards. You can check out her website and learn more about One Little Word by clicking here

The task for July is a hard one for me as I am not really into music. So this makes it hard to find songs that fit my word for me. I know there are plenty of songs that have dream in them but I have to find what works for me.

The first song that comes to mind that would be a fit for me and my word is God Gave Me You by Blake Shelton. This is connected to my word as it reminds me of how much Scott is there to help me with my dreams and how encouraging he can be. I love this song because it makes me smile when I think about Scott and how we feel about each other. This song generally makes me feel happy and proud of my marriage.

'Cause God gave me you for the ups and downs
God gave me you for the days of doubt

As much as I do not want to admit it as I am not on the Frozen bandwagon the song Let It Go seems fitting after I read the lyrics. I felt as if this connected with my word because it is telling you to let it go, be who you are and follow your heart all things you need to remember on your journey to fulfill your dreams. I liked this song because it helps me to know that I can do this and let all the doubt go. This song makes me feel alive.

It's time to see what I can do
To test the limits and break through
No right, no wrong, no rules for me I'm free

The next song that I found that I thought was fitting is Sweet Dreams by Eurythmics. This song connects with dream because it reminds me to hold my head up and to keep moving towards my dreams. I like this song because it reminds me of the time when I met Scott and soon after married. For me this song helps me to remember to feel positive and encouraged.

Hold your head up
Keep your head up, movin up

The last song that I found that was fitting for me is I Have a Dream by ABBA. I feel as if this song connects with my word because it reminds me to think of my dreams night and day. This song makes me feel good about having dreams to reach for.

I have a dream, a fantasy
To help me through reality
And my destination makes it worth the while

Even though this was a hard activity for me I am glad that I did it as it opened my eyes to a couple of songs I would not normally listen to.

Grateful Heart w/ Ember Grey

I am going to join in on Ember Grey's linkup where you write what you are grateful each day this week. Be sure to stop by her site if you would like to join in.

Today I am grateful for my podcasts. When I am working on the computer, driving alone in the car or writing pen pal letters I like to listen to podcasts. In case you do not know what these are they are like talk shows and I find them fun and interesting. Today I am starting a new one to me and it is called The Pen Addict - I love pens and these two guys love talking about them so this should be a good fit.

Some of my other favorites are in no particular order:
The Art of Simple (talks about living life simply)
Book Club Girl (talks about books)
The Sarah R. Bagley Posdcast (talks about perfectionism and  how to overcome it)
Happier with Gretchen Rubin (talks about how to be happier in your life)
Ben Franklin's World (talks about history)
Paperclipping Roundtable (talks about scrapbooking)
Elise Gets Crafty (talks about crafts, small business and life)

I am always looking for new podcasts so if you have a favorite I would like to hear about it.
