December Daily 2014 - Days 29 - 31

Day 29
Deserted island

If you  were living on a deserted island what would you take with you? I of course would have to have books and lots of them. I wold also like to have my dog Gyro back as he would love it on an island. It would also be nice to have Scott with me. I would definitely have to have shade and a nice breeze so I do not get too hot. A nice house would be good as well.

Day 30
Hosting a holiday party

If you were hosting a holiday party and could have anyone in the world there past or present who would it be. I would love to have Laura Ingalls Wilder as she is my idol, Helen Keller because she was so strong, Coco Chanel for her fashion sense and because she was independent. Tim McGraw and Faith Hill for their singing and to visit with, my grandma and grandpa Mayberry because I miss them. Diana Gabaldon, Robyn Carr, Sheila Roberts and Laura Childs as they are a few of my favorite authors, Drew and Jonathan Scott as I love watching their TV shows, Sig Hansen as I think he would be interesting to talk to, Thomas Jefferson, Lewis and Clark and Sacagwea as I would love to hear tales of their history, Jim Rohn to help guide me in the future and Princess Diana as I think she would be amazing to talk to.

Day 31
Reflecting back on the year

This year for me has been full of ups and downs. I have learned how to make changes in my life which for me is progress. My niece got married this summer so I gained a nephew and could not be happier for both of them. This year also saw the passing of my uncle and I hope he is at peace. My football team the Green Bay Packers are in the playoffs for the Super Bowl. My husband and I celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary with our first vacation ever to Key West. My daughter graduated high school, got her first job and will be starting college. Grandma Newcomb had to be moved to a nursing home. So when I say it has been up and down it truly has although there have been more ups than there were downs. I am looking forward to 2015 and all it has to offer.

One Little Word - December 2014

CHANGE

Change that was the word I chose for 2014 as there were some changes I wanted to make in my life.

Facts - I did work on changing things in my life even though some were hard. There are some things I will continue to work on. Thinking positive was a big change I wanted to make. I have not done bad with this but I need to be better. Stop drinking pop was a very good change for me and am happy I did it.

Feelings - Change can be very hard at times but the reward is worth every minute of it. My goal is to continue on the path I started.

As I say goodbye to this year, I want to remember the good things I have changed. Looking for the bright side, smile more, eating less junk food, no road rage, no pop, and being aware of what I need to change and working towards my goals.

December Daily 2014 - Days 25 -

Day 25:
Bucket List

I started a scrapbook years ago with twenty wishes in it, which is the same thing as a bucket list. Some things are large and some are small. I enjoy adding things to my list as well as taking them off. Here are a few things from my list.

Climb to the top of a lighthouse - I have tried twice but my fear of heights has gotten the best of me, but I did make it to the top of the tower at the fort in Key West

See both my kids graduate - last May I completed this task as my daughter graduated. Now on to college

Meet Tim McGraw, Brett Favre and their spouses - One day I hope to get to me at least one of these people. I think Tim and Faith are such down to earth people and as for Brett I love the Green Bay Packers and enjoyed watching him play.

Travel to Europe - I will be dreaming of this until the day I die. There are many places I want to see in Europe - Italy/Venice/Rome/Tuscany - France/Paris - Norway - Germany - Ireland - Scotland - England to name a few

Write a book - this I will be working on in 2015.

Day 26
Pay it forward

I have heard about people doing the pay it forward thing but have not done it myself nor have I been a receiver of this. My dad did have this happen to him this year. In a store he was looking at a chair and someone out of the blue bought it for him. It makes it so now he does not have to sit in a wheelchair day in and day out. One day I myself am going to do something for someone. Some ideas - pay for the person in line behind you, help someone in need,  or pay a compliment to the cashier.

Day 27
Women I respect

There are a few women that I enjoy reading about because I think they are very independent and strong. Here are the women I look up to. Laura Ingalls Wilder - to me she had to be strong to travel to a land that was undeveloped and start a new life with her family and then in her later years she became an accomplished author. Helen Keller - she overcame her struggles with blindness and deafness to write book as well as she was a public speaker and traveler. Coco Chanel - she started out with nothing being left in an orphanage to be raised to become a fashion icon who to this day is still widely known.

One Little Word - November 2014

CHANGE

My thoughts for this month:

I thought I would learn quicker than I did how to change things in my life. Some things I have found it easier to change and other it is taking me just a little longer to accomplish.

My road rage has cut down a lot to almost none which is nice as I just don't need that stress. While there are days that the positive thinking takes some work I do try to remember to look for the good and not the bad all the time. I am also really trying to work on the eating healthier - I was doing good then fell off the wagon so to speak. Now I just need to get back on track.

I plan on continuing on my journey to change as this is a life long project. We should all be open to change and accept that in order for somethings to happen you do have to change and change is not always a bad thing. Many times it is actually very good.

December Daily 2014 - Days 15 - 17

Day 15:
Anniversary Memories

Scott and I got married at 17 and 19 and I was still in high school so we did not have a honeymoon. I remember our wedding day 25 years ago as it was the coldest day of the season.

Every year since we have been married we go out to dinner for our anniversary as our little way of celebrating. For the first 10 years or so we also would spend the night at a hotel just to have the night to ourselves. But as the kids got older that part of our tradition fell by the wayside. For our 20th wedding anniversary we got matching wedding ring tattoos that Scott designed. He said since he had been married that long and could never wear a ring due to his job it was about time to get one he could wear.

This year on December 15th marks our 25th wedding anniversary and Scott wanted to do something special so he planned a trip to Key West for us. We were able to spend four days and three nights there. We stayed at the Key Lime Inn and had a very nice time. He told me he wanted me to be able to do whatever I wanted. So we went to the Lighthouse, did a ghost tour, went to the Southernmost Point of the US, seen Ernest Hemingway's home, saw the Little White House where Truman ran the country in the winters while he was in the office, at some great food, did a lot of walking and relaxed. It was a great trip and I will be forever grateful to Scott for giving me an anniversary I can remember.

Day 16:
Perfect Christmas

My perfect Christmas would be spent in Nebraska with a new fresh white sparkling layer of snow on the ground. I would have my grandparents especially Grandma and Grandpa Mayberry as well as aunts and uncles like Kenny Peterson, Melva and Ruby around. All of my nieces and nephews would be there as well - oh and don't forget Santa would make a special appearance for the kids young and old.

Everyone would get along and be happy as can be. There would be a great meal followed by lots of story telling from the grandparents, aunts and uncles of days gone by and Christmas' from when they were a child. Everyone would receive the perfect gift.

Next we would go on a tour of houses decorated both inside and out for the season. Some would have bright lights and some would be decorated with a historic motif inside. When all was over everyone would remember this as the best day ever.

Day 17:
Letter to anyone

Dear Grandma Mayberry,

I want to let you know how much I miss you. There are many days that I think of you and wish I could stop in for a visit or give you a call.  I think you would be happy with all that I have done since you have left us. I know you keep watch over me and that makes me feel good. I sure hope you are happy in your new home with all of our ancestors and are having fun playing cards and telling stories. It must be nice to to be able to do that after all the work you have done in your life. One day I will see you again and what a happy day that will be. Until then I love you and will keep thinking of you.

Love Angela

December Daily 2014 - Days 11 - 14

Day 11
Scenes of Christmas

When I think of Christmas I think of white fluffy snow on the ground. Glistening trees covered in frost, bright twinkling lights on the houses - a nice peaceful look.

On the inside I see beautifully decorated trees filed with all sorts of ornaments and covered in lights. presents will be stacked underneath the tree completing the look. I also like to see Christmas villages all set up with their street and house lights glowing. You can almost feel yourself walking through this village. Don't forget to set out all the Christmas cards you have received to remember all of your family and friends.

Seeing the families get together is one of the best scenes of all along with all the smiling faces on Christmas morning.

Day 12
Goals

Goals are a good thing to have to help you progress in life. I have been reading a lot about them and am currently working on setting goals tat are obtainable.

A big goal I have is to become debt free, that will take some doing but I am confident I can do it. I also want to try and be healthier not only through my eating but through exercising. I just need to learn how to discipline myself.

Another goal I have to write a book as it has been a dream of mine for sometime. I would also like to do some traveling abroad. These are just a few things I have in mind for myself.

Day 13
A Story of Today

I would like to tell you that my story of today is action packed and full of adventure but my days are quite the opposite. Most days for me are mundane and boring. I am sure some people would love that but there are days I wish for a little excitement.

My day starts at 5 am when the alarm goes off, then it is up to wash my hair, pack my lunch and out the door by 5:25. Then starts the 50 minute drive through the lovely traffic to arrive to work about 6:20. Next come nine hours of typing legal documents with an hour lunch thrown in to read and take a nap. At 4 pm it is time to head for home and since the traffic is heavier than it was in the morning it will now take me between and hour and an hour and ten minutes before I reach home. Now on to cleaning up the kitchen from the days messes left behind from those not at work, then fix supper, eat, do dishes, head to the shower and finally about 7:30 or so I can sit down to read and relax a little. I head to bed about 10:30 to start the day all over again.

This is how my days are Monday through Friday having every other Friday off work. Oh the lives we live.

Day 14
Christmas Movies/Music

There are a lot of different Christmas movies and even more Christmas soundtracks out there if you look. I myself am not big on any of these. I have to say some of my reasoning comes from the media over hyping things and over playing them. I really don't think we need to start hearing Christmas music in October.

My favorite Christmas shows are the old cartoons I watched as a kid such as Frosty the Snowman, Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer, Santa Claus is Coming to Town and How the Grinch Stole Christmas to name a few.

As for music I am not a big music person in general - but there are a few things I do like. For example I enjoy Trans Siberian Orchestra and Mannheim Steamroller. There are a few other songs I like as well - Jingle Bells, Frosty the Snowman, Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, Alvin and the Chipmunks Christmas cs, Walking in a Winter Wonderland and there is a newer one I like I think it is called New Boy in Town but not sure.

I love Christmas just not the over hyped media version of it.

One Little Word - October 2014

CHANGE

This month's prompt included writing a letter to yourself, I chose to write one to my future self, so here goes:

Dear Angela

Please remember that you are good enough, beautiful enough and strong enough. You can do anything that you put your mind to. I can't wait to read our books when it comes out. Oh and I have seen the home you have decorated and you have a real talent. Keep up the good work.

I would like some tips from you on how you learned to eat so healthy and become more fit. Your positive attitude really works and your look so much happier. I am very proud of you.

Remember to keep following your dreams and be all that you can be and you will go where ever your heart desires.

Love
Angela

December Daily 2014 - Days 7 - 10

Day 7
Christmas Traditions

My family has never really had any family traditions to speak of. So this may be a little short.

One thing we do every year is on Christmas Eve instead of dinner we have meat, cheese, crackers, cheeseball, and little smokies to snack on. Then after we are all done eating we open presents. They we snack all night long until it is time to go to bed. That is when Santa comes for the kids.

When my grandpa Mayberry was alive he would always have grandma make chili and he would make oyster stew for dinner and the whole family would come and eat and enjoy each others company.

My mom and dad used to make candy at Christmas time but have not done it for years. Now my aunt does some and even my sister likes to do this. Me not so much.

Every Christmas we watch National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation with the kids as our own little family tradition.

I hear and see others talking about their traditions and wish sometimes that we had more of them to pass down. When my kids have a family I hope they make their own traditions.

Day 8
Things I like about Christmas

Things I like about Christmas. I enjoy reminiscing about all the good Christmas' we had as a child for one. Another thing I enjoy is looking at all the houses that are lit up like Christmas trees. I also enjoy seeing all the different decorations and the way people decorate their trees. There is nothing I like better than a well lit and decorated tree. One of my favorite things to look at is gingerbread houses. Some of the detail that goes into them is amazing.

One of the best things about Christmas is to see the spirit of giving come to life in those who throughout the rest of the year are a grinch. There also seems to be more of a sense of community at this time of year as well.  Christmas for me is a time to get together and have fun and remember all the good times.

Day 9
What brings you joy

This seems to be the time of year when people think more about what really brings them joy. When in truth we should think of this all year long.

Some of the things that bring joy to me are seeing pictures of my nieces and nephews as well as getting to talk to them on the phone.

Memories of days gone by with my grandparents.

Reading a good book with a nice holiday theme

Watching old Christmas cartoons.

Day 10
Sayings to think about

Today I left the holiday theme behind to share some of my favorite sayings that I enjoy reading.

Live Laugh Love

Keep Calm and Carry On

You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream - C.S. Lewis

Nothing is impossible the word itself says I'm possible - Audrey Hepburn

Think positive, be positive, and positive things will happen

Every day may not be good but there's something good in every day

She believed she could, so she did - believe in yourself

One small positive though in the morning can change your whole day

You are a writer already. Today. Now. So start writing the book, the novel, the blog, your life's work. Today is a good time to start. Now is even better.

A dream written down with a date becomes a goal. A goal broken down into steps becomes a plan. A plan backed by action makes your dreams comes true.

December Daily 2014 - Days 5 & 6

Day 5
Best Christmas

My parents always made sure we had a nice Christmas but one of our best Christmas' was my parents worst.

My parents had no money for presents so at the last minute they went to an auction and bought our gifts. We thought they were the best ever. My sister and I got a dolhouse and kitchen to share and my brother got a drum set. It makes my parents feel good to know we felt this way.

Another great Christmas was the year Santa came to my grandparents house. One year we went to my Grandma and Grandpa Mayberry's house in Nebraska as we did for many holidays. All of our cousins were there as well so there was a houseful. Well we heard a nose on the roof so grandpa, dad and uncle Teddy went out to see what it was. The next thing we heard was a gun shot - mind you I am a country girl so I did not really think twice about this. Then the next thing we know they all came in and told us they accidently shot a deer. A few minutes later we heard a knock at the door and who could it be but Santa. He was there to deliver presents to us and give her reindeer a rest as they got scared by a gun shot - turns out the deer was not shot - thank goodness. What a nice time we all had.

Day 6
More on decorations

I love looking at Christmas decorations and lights. There are so many out there to choose from.

I remember as a kid going to the next town over to drive around and look at all the houses decorated with Christmas lights. There was a park that would decorate for Christmas, play music and hand out candy canes at the end. The lights were such a sight to see.

When I had kids we would do the same thing with them and even bring them to Santa's house to visit and ride the train.

Here in Florida we do not get to do this so much as they just don't seem to have the same spirit as there was in Nebraska. I sure miss the lights that mixed with snow on the ground makes Christmas seem like Christmas.

December Daily 2014 - Days 3 & 4

Day 3
Family Memories

Lately I have been thinking a lot about family members that are no longer with us and all the memories of them. So I would like to write a memory for some of them.

Great Grandma Mayberry - I remember getting to play the card game May I with her. I miss her and that game.

Grandpa and Grandma Mayberry - It was always fun going their house for holidays - especially as all of our family would be there to celebrate with.

Uncle Kenny Peterson - He was a great big teddy bear that we did not get to see often but when we did he made us laugh. He introduced me to honeycrisp apples which are think are the best red apples ever.

Melva & Ruby - These are my aunts from Vermillion, SD and are Norweigian. I loved listening to them tell stories of days gone by. Their favorite word that they always said was "honestly". I miss that.

Joyce & Dewayne - I enjoyed going to their house to see the horses and listen to stories they would tell.

Grandpa Peterson - I remember going to Lake Shetec with him and staying for a week and riding on the pontoon boat.

Great Grandpa Peterson - I remember he would give us a half dollar every time we would stop and see him.

Grandpa Newcomb - I remember he loved watching Hee Haw and Mash on TV and if you would try to change the channel while he was dozing he would know it and tell you he was not asleep.

What fun memories.

Day 4
Best Gifts

One of the best gifts I have received was my Brett Favre jersey. My husband put a in some planning behind this gift so it really meant a lot to me.

Some of my other favorite gifts that I have received over the years - dollhouse, kitchen, Barbie sets, books, favorite movies, Packers blanket, history of the Packers DVD and my ropers (boots).

These are all the ones I can think of at the moment, but I will also say any gift is a good one especially if it comes from the heart.

One Little Word - September 2014

CHANGE

My story - I would like to tell you that my journey has  been easy and I am right where I want to be with my changes, but that would be a fairy tale. While fairy tales are nice sometimes we need to look at the truth.

This has been a long journey for me and I will be on this journey for a long time. I have been working at making changes in my life but it is not always easy and sometimes I back slide. One of the reason I chose the word change is that I want to learn how to become a more positive and happy person. I will admit that some days are easier than others.

Something s I have learned along the way is that it is ok to have a bad day but don't dwell on it. Take the time to think about the good that happened and forget the bad. Ask yourself if there is something you could have done differently to make this a better day. Remember to look to the future and hitch a ride on that bright star. Dreams are a good thing to help you along the way.

For me dreams, wishes and goals have helped e to remember things can and will get better you just have to make it so and work hard at it and you can have anything. Another thing that has been a helpful tool for me is self-help books. I have been listening to and reading books that are helping me to learn how to be a happier person and how to make more positive changes in my life. It does help but I still have a ways to go.

December Daily - 2014 - Day 1 and 2

I saw that a lot of people were participating in this project so it got me wondering what it was all about. When I saw it was all about making memories, I thought what a good idea. Most people do their's as a form of a scrapbook but I am choosing to do mine a little different by journaling each day. I will be playing catch up here on my blog but I have all of my journal entries in a book.

Day 1
Write a letter to Santa

Dear Santa,

It has been a long time since I have written a letter to you so I hope you have not forgotten me. I have tried to be good this year but some days it is hard. One thing I have been trying to do is to be more positive and think of happy things. Here are some things I would like for Christmas - The Happiness Project - one line a day journal, bubble bath from Bath & Body Works, and a gift certificate to buy books. If I could truly have anything I really wanted then I would like to to Green Bay and watch a Packers Game, travel to Europe and meet Tim McGraw & Faith Hill. I hope you have safe travels when you are delivering presents to all the kids this year.

Angela

Day 2
Today I am going to write about decorating

For years I have been putting up my tree on Thanksgiving day or the day after and trying to keep it up until New Years. The reason I did this was because my grandpa Newcomb always put their tree up on Thanksgiving day and I guess I wanted to keep his tradition alive as I got older and had my own family. The New Year comes into play because it is an old wives tale that it is bad luck to take it down any sooner.

This year I am a little slow as here it is a week after Thanksgiving and my tree is not up yet. (I wrote this a few weeks ago and am just now posting) I do not know why but I just can't seem to get int he mood to do it. I am going to shoot for this weekend.

Now on to decorations for the tree. Mine have always been a hodge podge of ornaments. I bought my ornaments randomly and they all have a meaning to them, like my Woody Woodpecker is a cartoon I like to watch, Santa in a VW because Scott likes Volkswagons, Spiderman for Matthew, and a baby bear in a basket for the year Rachel was born, oh and I have snowmen with all of my nieces and nephews names on them. The last few years though I have not used these as Rachel wanted to just do colored balls. So one year we had Tiffany blue and silver, then brown and green and this year purple, black and white. I am even thinking of doing a green and gold tree one year for the Packers.

As for other decorations, I have a few knick-knacks that I like to put out. One of my favorites is a ceramic Santa with Holland on it. I also have a handmade wreath that was given to me that I like. One thing that I do miss is my Christmas village. When I moved here to Florida I gave my sister the Christmas village and my brother Halloween village. It is nice to look at them though.

I do not put up lights outside but do enjoy going to look at other's houses.

We also hang stockings on the fireplace and still fill them for the kids.

One Little Word - August 2014

CHANGE

For this month's prompt we were to write/document the soundtrack of your life right now.

I am not one that has to have music playing in fact more often than not I turn my radio off. I do like to listen to some music just not all the time so this was a little hard for me to do. Also I can't remember the names of songs or who sang them just parts of the lyrics. So here it my list, I tried to pick some songs that I can relate to at this time.

One song I always seem to feel as it it explains my life is Is there life out there by Reba McEntire.

Love Song for a Savior by Jars of Clay seems to be another that makes me feel good when I listen to it.

Two songs that make me smile and think of my husband are My Best Friend by  Tim McGraw and God Gave Me You by Blake Shelton

Lindsey Sterling is also someone whose music and help to relax and calm me.

Breakaway by Kelly Clarkson is a great song to listen to when thinking about change.

A great empowering song for women is Independence Day by Martina McBride

One Step Up by Kenny Chesney also is a good way to look at change - remember for every two steps back you can take one step forward.

Bless the Broken Road by Rascal Flatts is another good one for inspiration.

Here are a few of my favorite lines from each of the songs I picked.

I'm scared of change and the days stay the same - Shatter Me by Lindsey Sterling

Let the weak be strong, let the right be wrong - Independence Day by Martina McBride

I'll spread my wings and I'll learn how to fly. I'll do what it takes 'til I touch the sky. And Ill make a wish, take a chance, make a change and breakaway - Breakaway by Kelly Clarkson

But I got lost a time or two, wiped my brow and kept pushing through - Bless the Broken Road by Rascal Flatts

She'll always lived for tomorrow, she's never learned how to live for today. She's dyin' to try something foolish, do something crazy or just get away, something for herself for a change - Is There Life Out There by Reba McEntire

When I look at myself I don't see the man I wanted to be, somewhere along the line I slipped off track livin' one step up and two steps back - One Step Up by Kenny Chesney

You stand by me and believe in me, like nobody ever has. When my world goes crazy, you're right there to save me. You make me see how much I have - Your My Best Friend by Tim McGraw

God gave me you for the ups and downs, God gave me you for the days of doubt and when I think I lost my way there are no words left to say, it's true God gave me you - God Gave Me You by Blake Shelton

When I started writing this post I was not sure of what I would use but now I am happy with what I chose as each song means something to me.
