The Gratitude Project - Day 24

Today I am grateful for The Big Bang Theory. Yes I know this is something silly to be thankful for but I do not care. My family is a very big fan of this show, it is the one night a week that we all sit down together watch a show, laugh and talk. We are such big fans that we have all the seasons on dvd and have watched them so many times that we know a lot of lines by heart. We also own a board game, dice game, card game, bobble heads, pens, pins, bookmarks and yes t-shirts. There is nothing we do not like about this show except that new episodes are only on once a week. I know many people do not like the show - most of my extended family but we find it entertaining and sometimes you even learn a fact or two about science which is not a favorite subject of mine. I hope this show continues on for many more seasons.

The Gratitude Project - Day 23

In going with my theme from yesterday, today I am grateful for World Book Night. World Book Night was started to try and get people to read more. I think it is a great program and was happy to be a part of it this year. Even though my experience was not the greatest at first I think I may participate again next year. What World Book Night does is give 20 copies of a book to volunteers to hand to people on one specific night each year, this year happened to be April 23rd and my book was Weird Sisters. In my opinion it is a great idea, what more could you love than a free book, and if it gets more people to read the go for it. Here is a link if you are interested and would like to participate next year. World Book Night (click here)

The Gratitude Project - Day 22

Today I am grateful for books and authors. If you know me at all you know that I am a lover of books. I have a book with me at all times. To me books are not only a thing to read an enjoy they are a security blanket. When I am feeling down a book will pick me up, when I am scared a book can give me courage. Books are also a way for you to escape from the real world when it feels like life is getting too heavy. I would love to one day do some traveling but for today I will travel through my books and the many characters I have met along the way. Some I love, some I hate and then there are some I will never forget. If I did not have the ability to read or have access to books I do not know what I would do with my life. I encourage everyone to read even if you just read a paper or magazine you can still get lots of enjoyment out of it.

Gratitude Project - Day 21

Today I am grateful for my new little puppy. I never thought I would want another dog, but I met a dog on Saturday that I fell in love with. So I went on a mission to find one just like him. Well I completed my mission and found one that is a pomipoo. He is the cutest little thing and has melted our hearts. We named him Mr. Peepers for the noises he makes.

Gratitude Project - Day 20

Today I am grateful for a nice weekend. Saturday I went to a pancake breakfast with my husband and a friend and had an enjoyable morning. I also got to meet a great dog. Sunday I spent at home doing nothing much at all just relaxing. Sometimes we just need those days to recharge our batteries.

Gratitude Project - Day 19

Today I am thankful for grandparents. I am/was luckily enough to have quite a few grandparents growing up. On my mom's side I had my Grandma (mom's mom) and Grandpa Mayberry, Grandpa Peterson (mom's dad), Great Grandma Mayberry and Great Grandpa Peterson. On my dad's side I had my Grandma and Grandpa Newcomb and Great Grandma Coddington. The only one I have left out of all of these grandparents is my Grandma Newcomb. I have many good memories from each of these grandparents.

Gratitude Project - Day 18

Today I am grateful for country life. I prefer living in the country to living in the city. In the country you have birds chirping instead of sirens chirping. In the country you don't have anyone telling you when to mow your yard, what color your house needs to be, nor how many cars to have in your driveway. In the country you have wildflowers and trees instead of asphalt. You have more times that it is quiet rather than noisy. I will take country life over city life any day of the week.

Gratitude Project - Day 17

Today I am grateful for life. Even if you have a bad day you should try and remember the good things in life and not let the bad get you down. Always remember that someone may have it worse than you. You can touch someone's life each day by just giving them a smile.

Gratitude Project - Day 16

Today I am grateful for sunshine. I live in Florida now which is called the Sunshine State. I believe we need sunshine to brighten our moods and to give us good health. If we do not have sunshine for a few days then we get tired, depressed and don't feel good. So take a few minutes each day to enjoy the sunshine.

Gratitude Project - Day 15

Today I am grateful for my parents and the way they raised me. I may not always see eye to eye with them on all things but they have always been there for me. They have been married 43 years this year and I credit them for my long marriage.

Gratitude Project - Day 14

Gratitude Project - Day 14

Today I am grateful for satellite TV. I know it is a luxury to have satellite TV but it sure is nice. There are many programs I get to watch and if I did not have this I would not get to see them. I watch all kinds of shows from reality - history - and just plain entertainment shows. Some of my favorite channels are The History Channel, The Discovery Channel and Bravo TV.

Gratitude Project - Day 13

Gratitude Project - Day 13

Today I am grateful for a beautiful day. I am going to be working outside with Scott trying to help him build some grow beds for our aquaponics business. The sun is shining and there is a nice breeze blowing. It is not supposed to be too hot outside so it will be a great day to work outside and enjoy the weather. Of course I am hoping I do not have to work too long outside so I can get some reading time in. I hope you get the chance to enjoy some good weather.

Gratitude Project - Day 12

Gratitude Project - Day 12

Today I am grateful for my Saturday. I know this is a weird thing to be grateful for but I am. I started the day off by going to a store I had not been to before and was happy I decided to go there. Then I was able to get all of my laundry done so I can not have that chore to worry about on Sunday. The best part of the day was spending it catching up on tv with my daughter. We record almost everything we watch as my husband does not care for our shows so when he is not in the house or goes to bed we try to catch up. Well he had a business meeting that ran long so we were able to get a lot of tv time in.

Gratitude Project - Day 11

Gratitude Project - Day 11

Today I am grateful for my pets. Growing up I had a dog for a short while and then a cat for a short while and even a couple of birds, but as an adult I have had a dog and many cats for the last 14 years or so. The cats and dog I have had since being married have all been rescued animals. We had a pitbull named Gyro who passed away last June. He was such a big baby and never wanted anything other than to be loved. We now have three inside cats and two outside cats. They each have their own personality and fun to watch and love. I would love to have another bird but at this time I don't think the cats would like that much they would probably think that is a toy for them. With being married to an animal lover I am sure this will not be the last of the pets I have.

Gratitude Project - Day 10

Gratitude Project - Day 10

Today I am grateful for memories. Memories can be good or bad you have to choose which you want to remember and focus on in your life. Bad memories can help us to grow in life but we need not dwell on them as they can also bring you down. Good memories can make us laugh, smile or even giggle. These are the ones I chose to think of the most. When you are feeling down take a moment to think of a good memory to help brighten your day. It is never too late to start writing down those memories either so they will not be lost to future generations.

Gratitude Project - Day 9

Gratitude Project - Day 9

Today I am grateful for my quiet time. I have not had a lot of quiet time the last few days as we have had company but that is ok. For me quiet time is a way to relax and unwind. Everyone should have some part of their day where they can take a few moments to relax and enjoy the quiet and reflect on life.  For me it is a time to de-stress as well as to think about things I want or need to do. So take the time to stop and smell the roses and enjoy the calmness of quiet time.

Gratitude Project - Day 8

Gratitude Project - Day 8

Today I am grateful that my sister and her family got to come to Florida to visit. Even though we do not always see eye to eye on things at the end of the day she is still my sister and I love her. It has been fun to see all the things my little nephew says and does rather than just to hear about them over the phone. My new little niece is the most precious little baby. Both kids have been very good for not being in their own home. I wish we all lived closer together so we could see each other more. But for now I will enjoy the time I have with them.

Gratitude Project - Day 7

Gratitude Project - Day 7

Today I am grateful for my job. In this day and age we should each be thankful for our jobs even if the pay is not great or it is not the perfect job. Many people are still looking for work and can't find it. My job is nice enough to let me set my own hours so I can take time off as needed. It is also such a relaxed dress code that I can dress comfortably for me. The people I work with are pretty nice people as well. The pay may not be great and there is no insurance but for now the other perks work for me.

Happiness Project - April

Happiness Project - April

This month Gretchen talks about "Lightening Up" and parenting. My kids are both older now (21 and 18) so some of the things it is too late for me to apply but I can tailor them to fit into other areas of my life.

Sing in the morning - I don't know if I will sing to my daughter when I call to make sure she is up in the morning but maybe I can sing along with the radio on the way to work. I am not a big singer or music person so this is a little out of my comfort zone.

Acknowledge the reality of people's feelings - This can still work today for me. If my kids or husband are upset, not listening or complaining then don't get angry at them for it, listen to their emotion then tell them you understand their feelings and acknowledge their feelings so you can help them.

Be a treasure how of happy memories - This is one I really want to try and work on. I want to start writing down happy memories from my childhood and about family members. It would be a nice thing to leave for my grandchildren and children. This sentence made perfect sense to me - " happy people remember happy events better, and depressed people remember sad events better. Depressed people have as many nice experiences as other people - they just don't recall them as well." I have experienced this in my own family where two of us remember things one way and another another way all because of who we are.

Take time for projects  - I have quite a few projects that I need to get done and not just because I "have" to but because I want to. Maybe this will be the push I need to get the done. Another thing this book mentioned is that there are four stages of happiness just as there are five stages of grief. The four stages of happiness are: anticipate it, savor it (as it unfolds), express (happiness) and recall (a happy memory). Each of these make perfect sense and we should each use them.

In closing remember that your mood can affect all of those around you - so let's try to think happy this month.

Gratitude Project - Day 6

Today I am grateful for husband - Scott. I know we all list family members and we should and if you don't I hope things will change for you so you are grateful for family. Anyway back to my husband. I know there are times when he can drive me crazy but at the end of the day I know he loves me. I like that he likes to spend time with just me and takes me places with him. He is always wanting to date night and he is very good about telling me he loves me and saying things to make me feel better. He is a pretty good guy in my book.

Matthew and Scott

Gratitude Project - Day 5

Today I am grateful that my kids. My kids may drive me crazy at times but they are my kids and they are good kids. Each of my kids are special to me in their own way. Matthew can make me angrier than all get out at times but he also can make me laugh like no tomorrow. Rachel is partner in crime. We do a lot of things together and she is a person I can always count on to be there for me and to help when I need. I am grateful that I have kids that have chosen the right paths through high school and have never been in trouble. There are things that they could have worked on a little better but they are great kids and I could not ask for better children.

Gratitude Project - Day 4

Gratitude Project - Day 4

Today I am grateful that I was able to have the day off of work and spend it with my husband at Sun N Fun in Lakeland. I had even more fun than I thought I would and enjoyed the beautiful weather of the day and looking at all the vintage airplanes. It was nice to get away even for a day and the topper of my day was the Blue Angels show, I have never seen anything like it and will talk about it for days and days.

Quotes I found this week that I liked:

Never give up on a dream just because of teh time ti will take to accomplish it. The time will pass anyway. Earl Nightengale

What you do everyday matters more than what you do once in awhile.
